Role Summary

The VP of Communications ensures timely, consistent, and effective communication to both internal and external audiences. This role manages the chapter’s communication channels, editorial content, and messaging strategy to strengthen member engagement and community presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communication Strategy & Planning
    • Develop and execute the chapter’s communication plan for programs, membership, SIGs, and chapter initiatives.
    • Partner with the VP of Marketing to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms.

  • Email & Content Management
    • Oversee the delivery of all chapter emails, including newsletters, event announcements, membership updates, and special communications.
    • Create and maintain a clear editorial calendar for the chapter.

  • Newsletter Oversight
    • Lead the creation and distribution of the quarterly chapter newsletter.
    • Collect content from Board members, SIG leads, sponsors, and volunteers.

  • Website & Messaging
    • Oversee updates to the chapter website (program pages, board information, resources).
    • Ensure that all communications align with ATD standards and chapter goals.

  • Member & Audience Engagement
    • Manage communication to members and non-members with clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
    • Maintain distribution lists, templates, and communication processes.

  • Collaboration & Leadership
    • Work closely with the VP of Marketing, President, VP of Membership, VP of Programs, and SIG leaders.
    • Support volunteer communications coordinators as needed.


Expected Time Commitment

  • Approximately 4–6 hours per month.
  • Attendance at monthly Board meetings, chapter events as needed, and quarterly planning sessions.


Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience in writing, communications, or content strategy.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with email marketing platforms, website updates, and content management.
  • Responsible for driving member engagement and increasing retention, through activities that connect Corporate and individual members to the Chapter value proposition, highlight member achievements and expertise, foster networking, and support active use of member benefits.
